Что такое Сока?
Это современная танцевальная музыка карибских островов. Посвящена она, как правило, карнавалам, которые проходят в карибских странах либо в конце зимы, либо в второй половине лета. А карнавал на Тринидаде и Тобаго, к примеру, второй в мире после бразильского по массовости и размаху торжеств.

Многие, зайдя в эту группу, ожидают услышать "что-то типа латино" или "вроде бразильской самбы", но это не так. У соки своё звучание, своя история, свой ритм. К тому же сока англоязычная, вернее она на креольских наречиях на основе английского.

Сока зародилась на Тринидаде и Тобаго во в 70-х годах прошлого века и распространилась по соседним карибским островам.

Также как ямайский реггей произошёл от менто, рокстеди и ска, сока произошла от не менее именитого стиля - Калипсо.

Изначально сока звучала совсем по-другому, это была смесь из калипсо и индийской музыки. Это обусловлено влиянием индийской культуры,
а индусов в Тринидаде и Тобаго - четверть всего населения. Позже индо-тринидадская версия этой музыки обособилась, образовав стиль Чатни (Chutney).
А основная ветвь музыки претерпела влияние современной ямайской культуры и ритмов соседних островов - бывших британских, французских и испанских колоний
